Importance of the fruit of the Spirit
Why must we bear fruits? John 15:1-2 already tells us that Jesus is the true vine, and God is the vinedresser. Every branch in Him that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
Could this be for his namesake? God is glorified when we are fruitful. The latter is proved right by the conversation between God and Satan in Job 1 verse 8. Then the Lord said to Satan: Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil”.
From the above scripture, we can see that God is pleased with his servant Job. In the few years that God has blessed me with life, I have learned that everything God has told me, and principles he set in his word for me to live by, are meant to benefit and protect me. The above does not take away the fact that when I am fruitful, God is glorified. To give him glory is my sole purpose in life.
Allow me to use the fruit of the Spirit, self-control, to elaborate further. Proverbs 25:28 says like a city whose walls are broken through, is a person who lacks self-control. Anyone can go in and out willy nilly, with no restrictions, law, or order. A city without walls can be easily attacked and destroyed. That is the same fate of a person without self-control. We set goals in life to achieve. We need to sacrifice temporary pleasure for future gratification. Your father in heaven is glorified when you are fruitful. While you enjoy the satisfaction of achieving your set goals.
By us living in the Spirit and not gratifying the desires of the flesh, we produce fruit, and that fruit makes us better people. Let us look at another fruit love: When we love our neighbor as we love ourselves, we will not harm our neighbors. My neighbor and I benefit from this law. The bible says in all your gettings get understanding, in the next coming weeks will look into each fruit. We need to gain an understanding of why the fruit of the Spirit is important in our lives. And why we cannot afford to live our lives without them.
Summarising the above, we can say: we need to bear fruits because our father in heaven is glorified when we are fruitful. The more we produce fruit, the more we become like Christ. The fruit of the Spirit helps us to live better because they help us build a good character. We live with other people in harmony because we love and are patient with each other. We are disciplined enough to reach our goals and become successful in our different callings.
If we all lived and walked in the Spirit, the world will be a better place for us all.
